SUMMARY:Lehman Caves Camping Trip 2021
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our first meet-up since March of 2020 at Upper Lehman Campground with a private tour of the Lehman Caves. This is a special opportunity for Young Surveyors this summer to spend a weekend camping with fellow YSN members to enjoy and learn more about the unique application of Land Surveying in a Cave while enjoying the beautiful treasures of Great Basin National Park.  Come pitch your tent\, explore caves and laugh around the campfire with our warm\, fun and spunky group of Nevada Young Surveyors! \nCamping will take place at Upper Lehman Campground (campsites have already been reserved and is not necessary to do so) located in the Great Basin National Park near the Easterly border of the State. The campsites are a close 10-minute drive to the Lehman Caves which will be toured as a private group during the weekend. Tour will be held by an NV Energy P.L.S. and will investigate the surveying applications in performing Cave Surveys. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to meet and hang out with fellow Young Surveyors and learn more about the Profession of Land Surveying! \nNO COST – PAY us with YOUR PRESENCE \nTo help ensure safe social distancing guidelines we have a limited capacity with our campsite reservation. Also discussed are the standard American Transit and its solar and mining attachments. Dick also reviews the prominent American makers\, including the exquisite work of Goldsmith Chandlee\, the prolific firm of W. & L.E. Gurley\, and others. Also reviewed are alidades\, levels\, and calculating devices. The equipment shown is all taken from Dick’s extensive collection of early American surveying equipment. The seminar begins with the historical development of water boundary law with regard to Rome\, England\, and the United States. After a foundation has been laid\, the boundary between private lands and the sovereign\, a boundary in continual conflict\, will be discussed in depth. Next\, the differences between inland and ocean and private and public waters will be explained.
